The Gothic Novel

The Gothic Novel was invented by Horace Walpole.
The first Gothic Novel was The Castle of Otranto and it was  published in 1764.

The Gothic Novel is an English genre of fiction popular in 18th to early 19th centuries, characterized by an atmosphere of mystery and horror and having a pseudo-medieval setting. The effect of Gothic fiction feeds on pleasing sort of terror, an extension of Romantic literary pleasures that were relatively new at the time of Wakpole's novel. That  has been around for centuries, and, despiste a few major changes, has maintained some of the basic elements of classic Gothic romance since it's very origins. In the Gothic Novel they used elements for do the novel more realistic like wile and remote landscapes, supernatural and uncanny happenings...
